About the Program
Composers/song writers Allan Sherman (Chicago-born), Tom Lehrer, and PDQ Bach will be featured. Along with their music, there will be reprises of pieces we’ve performed over the last 9 seasons. Among them are Robert Russell Bennett’s “Crazy Cantata – Three Blind Mice,” and my arrangements of “Lincoln Park Pirates,” “The Typewriter,” and “If You’ve Only Got a Moustache.” Rounding off the program will be some other unique, witty, and sometimes zany selections – some written by legitimate composers.
Christmas Concert 2016
About the Program
Nothing complements Christmas time better than the heralding sounds of trumpets and trombones!
The Michael Teolis Singers will kick off the season by featuring dazzling arrangements of some of your favorite carols, such as “Joy to the World,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” “Sussex Carol,” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” accompanied by brass, organ, and percussion.
In addition, as always, MTS will present music from ancient to contemporary, including O Filii et Filiae of Volkmar Leisring, Lift Up Your Heads of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, and the center piece, Daniel Pinkham’s Christmas Cantata.
You can also look forward to James McKelvy’s Deck the Halls in 7/8 Time, A Christmas Carol, by Charles Ives; Ray Charles’ arrangement of Jingle Bells; plus a very important event – the premier of Ave Maria by three-time Academy Award winning songwriter, Harry Warren. Mr. Warren is famous for creating American popular standards, such as “I Only Have Eyes for You,” “At Last,” “Chattanooga Choo-Choo” and “On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe.” In 2008, MTS presented the Chicago premier of Warren’s Mass in Honor of St Anthony.
This program will truly get you into the spirit of the season. Bring your singing voice!
