Our spring concert this year will carry a patriotic theme and will feature original arrangements of the Illinois State Song and The Star Spangled Banner by conductor and founder, Michael Teolis. The central work is the Chicago premiere of the folk cantata, The Lonesome Train, music by Earl Robinson (1910-1991), to a text by Millard Lampell. Joining us for this selection will be WTTW Channel 11’s own Eddie Arruza; composer, singer, actor, Philip Seward; and Lincoln representationalist, Glenn Braun. In addition, the enduring arrangements of “When Johnny Comes Marching Home” and “Battle Hymn of The Republic” by Peter J. Wilhousky, and some arrangements of spirituals and songs of the period will be presented. The premiere of an arrangement of Irving Berlin’s “Abraham” from the film Holiday Inn, also by Teolis, will round out the program.
